Bienvenidos aGuildford! Welcome to Guildford.
Last week, we welcomed twenty Spanish students from The Instituto Cristo de la Yedra in Granada accompanied by their two teachers Elena Garcia and Javier Navarrete for six days. This was the return programme of cultural activities organised by the Spanish Department led by Mrs Mortimer.
The students went sightseeing in London and boarded the London Eye as well as enjoying a cruise along the River Thames. This was followed by another full packed day when the group went to Brighton accompanied by their St Peter’s partners where they visited Brighton Pier, the well-known Lanes and experienced the cultural delight of eating fish and chips, something most of the Spanish had never tasted before and they all loved it!
In the evenings, the special visitors were entertained by their host families and on the weekend they were taken out on trips including Portsmouth, Windsor Castle and some country walks in the Surrey Hills.
Despite some winter weather, the sun shone for most of their outings and they had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Both their teachers and the students felt the experience was extremely valuable as not only they practised their English but also embraced the rich British culture and built long lasting friendships.
Many thanks to all the St Peter’s parents and the students for the great hospitality and we are all looking forward to next year’s exchange!
