Introduction to the Department
Our school mission statement is to be ‘Christ to all.’
We ‘live out’ this statement by providing support to all our students in the four main areas of need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social and Emotional Mental Health
- Physical and Sensory
In order for our students to thrive both academically and socially, we work closely with the young person, the parents/guardians and teaching staff to ensure that the correct provision is put in place.
In order to evidence the support and provision that is in place, the Graduated Approach of Plan, Do, Assess, Review is implemented. This is referred to as a PDR cycle. Quality First Teaching ensures that student needs are met in the classroom at universal level with adaptive teaching in place. Where further support is required time bound, targeted interventions with SMART targets take place in small groups or in intensive one-to-one lessons for English and Mathematics. Where further support is required referrals are made to outside agencies for support at specialist level.
Student progress is regularly monitored through data and reports which capture effort and engagement together with academic progress. This enables St Peter’s staff to ensure that the correct provision is in place in order for our students to fulfil their true potential.
